Shafer Vineyards donates $17,500 to support Meals on Wheels
Winery's challenge grant boosts community effort that raised $65,000
November 2008 – Shafer Vineyards is pleased to announce the donation of $17,500 to the Meals on Wheels program in response to that agency’s recent shortfall.
“Each year we choose a different Napa Valley charity to support in a significant way. This year that decision was almost made for us – the financial need at Meals on Wheels is critical,” says John Shafer, chairman, Shafer Vineyards. “We cannot leave behind those in our community with the greatest needs.”
Shafer Vineyards donated a check for $15,000 after learning of the program’s serious financial shortfall. In addition the winery also gave a challenge grant of $2,500 during a recent telethon hosted on Napa Valley TV to support the Meals on Wheels program.
The telethon’s goal was to raise $25,000 but thanks to an unexpected level of community support the final total was over $65,000, according to Dan Monez, Executive Director, Napa Valley TV.
Shafer has a long history of community support. Most recently, in August 2008 the winery announced an Adopt-A-School partnership with McPherson Elementary School in Napa and donated $10,000 for equipment needs.
