“One of Napa’s most prominent and respected wineries. Shafer is a poster boy for remarkable and consistent quality across the board. All of this is the work of the brilliant father and son team of John and Doug Shafer as well as their long-term winemaker and vineyard manager, Elias Fernandez … this is a winery that never seems to disappoint.”

Grand Jury Europeen Cabernet/Merlot Tasting Event:
Grand Jury Europeen (GJE), a respected group of mostly European and a handful of U.S. wine professionals and collectors invited top wineries in the U.S., France and Italy to submit 2001 Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots to its tasting held at Villa d’Este in Italy in November, 2007.

The tasting results from GJE ranked 2001 Hillside Select 6th out of a field of sixty of the world’s greatest wines, including Chateau Latour, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Chateau Margaux, Harlan Estate, Ridge Montebello, among others. Tasters ranked Shafer’s 2001 Merlot 23rd in the same field of 60 wines. (www.grandjuryeuropeen.com)
