What’s New at Shafer

2006 One Point Five and 2005 Hillside Select

Listed Among “Year’s Best Cabernets” by Wine & Spirits magazine

November, 2009 – Both of Shafer Vineyard’s current Cabernet Sauvignons are named among “Year’s Best Cabernet Sauvignon’s” in the year-end issue of Wine & Spirits magazine.

The One Point Five received an outstanding critique, the editors writing: “...the texture, that signal aspect of [Stags Leap District] fruit, is layered and as rich as French roast coffee, with an underlying tension that keeps the wine focused on high-toned red fruit, dark earth and violet scents. It’s powerful and guarded when first poured, growing sleek and classical with a day of air. This should drink increasingly well over the next ten years.”

“This is a high note to end the year on,” says Doug Shafer, president, Shafer Vineyards. “It’s a testament to the diligence of the team here at the winery that works exactingly to produce delicious wines year after year.”

Winery of the Year

Earlier this year the editors of Wine & Spirits selected Shafer Vineyards as a “Top 100 Winery of the Year.”

Shafer was featured in the magazine’s November “Buying Guide” issue with a spotlight on 2004 Hillside Select, which is named a “Top 100” wine of the year.

This is the 14th year since 1991 that Shafer Vineyards has been named a top winery of the year by Wine & Spirits. Only four other wineries in the world have been honored as frequently.
